I decided to celebrate my turning 40 with a CRAZY idea. Let's go travel around Peru for 3 weeks, including HIKING the 4-day, 28-mile, Inca Trail that leads into Machu Pichu at sunrise. Yes, crazy. So, since January, we've been training - hiking as much as possible, doing boot camps, body pump and power sculpt classes, as well as a Spin class every so often. I've been working with a personal trainer to try and get into the best shape possible. Carolyn and Linda are the ladies crazy enough to enjoy this adventure with me.
This blog is set up especially for those who'd like to follow our adventure. We'll post pictures and some journaling every few days when we can.
Here's our plan:
June 12 - fly to Lima, Peru
June 13 - fly to Cuzco, explore Sacred Valley and surrounding areas while we acclimate to the high altitude until the 18th
June 18-21 HIKE the Inca Trail - sleep in tents in the freezing cold, enjoy the beauty of the Andes Mtns
June 21 - Explore Machu Pichu
June 22 - Bus from Cuzco for 7 hours up to Puno (southern Peru). Stop at 6 different archeological sites along the way (and rest our sore, tired bodies, I'm sure)
June 23-25 - Explore city of Puno and Lake Titicaca - the highest navigationable lake in the world at 14,000 feet above sea level (higher than Mt. Charleston Peak)
June 26-29 Fly to Iquitos (northern Peru) and explore the Amazon Jungle and River for 3 days
June 30 Fly home to the good ol' USA
